Study Day: THE MAKING OF EXPERTISE, TALENT, AND SKILLS. WHAT INNOVATIONS?

The 7th Study Day of CIME Innovation, held today, provided a rich and inspiring experience. Centered on the theme of the making of expertise, talent, and skills, this event fostered constructive exchanges and promising reflections for the future.

Several key insights should guide decision-makers:

💡 Expertise, skills, and talent develop over the long term and can partly be informal, making them difficult to transfer.

💡 Organizations cannot overlook the analysis of actual work, and managers must be equipped to conduct it by engaging their teams in the process.

💡 In response to ongoing disruptions in the environment, maintaining the right level of expertise requires working within an ecosystem, integrating the skills of external partners.

💡 The transfer of expertise must also be considered in light of power dynamics within organizations and the strategies of their stakeholders (What incentive do I have to share my knowledge?), avoiding a naive approach to management.

💡 The “war for talent” is shifting from an aristocratic approach (identifying tomorrow’s leaders) to a more inclusive model (developing all individuals within the organization).

💡 Ultimately, the role of managers remains central in supporting and developing individuals within organizations, leveraging the expertise of HR functions, which should move beyond a support and data collection role.

CIME Innovation will continue to explore and develop these essential themes, driving innovation and shaping the future of expertise and skills.
